2007.160.31  Brick, K Frog  Mid red building brick with long mid depth depression frog with angled sides and indented letter K. Made by Henry B Kirk pre 1888 in Lyttelton.  Made by Henry B Kirk who worked at Lyttelton as a brick maker before joining in partnership with John and William Austin (Austin & Kirk) and then in 1890 started at the Farnely works after the partnership dissolved. Little River Hotel was made with Kirk bricks. Comes from the ruins of the first 1860s homestead built and owned by George and Katherine McRae.

2007.160.32  Orange/red Homebush brick  Orange/red rectangular brick with Homebush New Zealand indented frog with fancy corners. Made by the Homebush Brick Co, which also made firebricks  Homebush brick co was owned and operated by the Deans family.

2007.160.33  Brick, H Frog  Pale orange brick with deeply indented rectangle with angled sides and deeply indented letter H made by Helmes brick makers of Dampiers Bay. Circa 1880s.  Made by Dampiers Bay (close to Lyttelton) brickworks owned by Helmes.

2007.160.34  Fire brick, R O Horsely Brand  Apricot rough fire brick with square sided rectangular shallow frog depression with indented letters R O Horsley Limited. Christchurch. Made by Mr Harris of Horsley works.  The Horsley family was long involved in making and selling bricks. They owned several companies including the Christchurch Brick Co and Horsley & Good.

2007.160.36  Brick, D L B ? mark  Red/orange hand made brick with rounded rectangular depression frog with indented letters D L B which are indistinct.

2007.160.37  Brick, B J Frog  Machine pressed red brick with rectangular frog with angled slides and indented letters B J. Made by John Brightling. Circa 1880s - 1890s  John Brightling was a contractor who built the horse tramway linking Brighton to the City in 1894. After completing this he bought it and became the owner of the City and Suburban Tramway Company. John Brightling, native of Seven Oaks, Kent, was an industrious working man, had a successful carrying firm and was interested in other business activities including brick making. In the 1890s he built the City and Suburban Tramway Company (using his bricks) out through Burwood to North Beach and down what is now Marine Parade to New Brighton. He then bought out the company and ran the tramway business.

2007.160.38  Miniature H B firebrick  Miniature yellowish firebrick with indented H B frog in indented rectangle with fancy corners made by Homebush Brick Company. Text in marker pen on bottom relating to where donor obtained the brick.  Business set up and managed by the Deans family

2007.160.39  Brick, J B Frog  Red brick with soft indented rectangle with slightly curved sides and indented letters J B made from closely aligned dots. Circa 1870s.  John Brightling was a contractor who built the horse tramway linking Brighton to the City in 1894. Her stone bears the conventional 19th century wording: ‘A faithful friend, a mother dear, a loving wife lies sleeping here’. John Brightling, 84, died on 21 July 1928 and is buried in Barbadoes Street Cemetery.
