Fibre ()

Description: Technique: Transfer-printArchaeological Notes: Fibre consists of an all-over design of fibrous tentacles. It is another pattern frequently recovered from historic sites. Yet the only reference to this pattern within the literature cites it as a design rendered on children?s teawares (Coysh and Henrywood 1989: 83). To date, four identified manufacturers have been recorded on Fibre pattern vessels from New Zealand?s historic sites. These include; Lewis Woolf on two examples from His Majesty?s Theatre; Minton on two examples from Victoria Hotel, Fell & Co on one example from Fort Ligar; and the South Wales Pottery on an example from the Chancery Street assemblage (Plowman 2000: 93; Brassey and Macready 1994: 41, 61 Fig. 30a-b; Brassey 1989:80; Macready and Goodwyn 1990: 21).
