POTTERIES

Over 1500 potteries are known to have operated in the Staffordshire district alone. This database does not attempt a comprehensive description of these potteries but concentrates on those identified on ceramics in New Zealand historic sites. You can view information on individual potters and their marks on the posttery.

Davenport

Country: EnglandDate Range:
Description: Longport, Staffordshire; 1793-1887 (Godden 1964:189; Godden 1968:60). Four printed marks relating to this firm were recovered. Three of these marks which comprise simply of the company name ?Davenport?, were recorded on a Willow pattern plate, a blue Muleteer pattern saucer and a blue Waverley pattern saucer, (Figures 3.7, 3.14 & 3.17). The remaining printed mark, which occurred on a green hand-painted vitreous china cup (pattern 315) includes ?Davenport of Longport Staffordshire? set beneath a crown (not illustrated). This was a standard Davenport mark utilised between 1870-87 (Godden 1964:191; Godden 1968:60).Source:
