Over 1500 potteries are known to have operated in the Staffordshire district alone. This database does not attempt a comprehensive description of these potteries but concentrates on those identified on ceramics in New Zealand historic sites. Description: Longport, Staffordshire; 1834-1848 (Coysh and Henrywood 1984:283; Godden 1964:492). Two transfer-printed marks attributable to this firm were recovered. One mark that was recorded on a blue Saxon Plaid pattern bowl consisted of the initials ?G.P? (Figure 3.13). The second, which occurred on a blue saucer (D.O.C. reference pattern E.A.217) also included the surname ?G. Philips of Longport? (not illustrated).Source: Plowman HMTS Godden 1991:492
