POTTERIES

Over 1500 potteries are known to have operated in the Staffordshire district alone. This database does not attempt a comprehensive description of these potteries but concentrates on those identified on ceramics in New Zealand historic sites. Edward Challinor

Description: Pinnock works and Unicorn Pottery, Tunstall Staffordshire; 1842-67 (Coysh and Henrywood 1984:77; Godden 1968:146). Edward Challinor operated potteries at both Burselum and Tunstall from 1819-1828. Following the dissolution of his partnership in the firm of Wood and Challinor ca. 1842, Challinor operated on his own in Tunstall until 1867 (Little 1969:5). Manufacturing marks may include the initials ?E.C?, or incorporate the surname ?E. Challinor?.Source: Godden 1991:137
